Fibrinogen is a protein in the blood that forms blood clots when we cut ourselves which is very important as a defense mechanism protecting us from bleeding to death. This same substance can actually cause our death when the clot forms inside the circulatory system and gets stuck in our brain or heart (resulting in a stroke or heart attack).
